Chinese standard GB18401 "National Basic Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products" clearly stipulates that 24 kinds of decomposable and carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes are prohibited, including benzidine (Chemical Abstracts No. 92-87-5).
The TD50 of benzidine was 19.9 mg/(kg·day). TD50 marks the dose of pollutants when 50% of the animals under test are cancer-caused due to long-term continuous exposure to a pollutant in a certain toxicity test. At the same time, studies have shown that the harmful components of dyes synthesized from carcinogenic aromatic amines are absorbed by the skin during long-term contact with the human body, and decompose under special conditions to produce more than 20 kinds of carcinogenic aromatic amines, forming carcinogenic aromatic amine compounds.
