Weiyel's R&D team has launched a series of thiophene standard reference materials for the precise detection of trace amounts of thiophene in petroleum benzene.
Thiophene is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature with a pungent odor similar to benzene; it is volatile and flammable. It occurs naturally in petroleum, coal tar, and shale oil, with concentrations in crude oil reaching 0.1%–3%. It is a common trace impurity in light aromatic hydrocarbons such as petroleum benzene and naphtha.
While the amount of trace thiophene in petroleum is extremely low, its hazards are significant, directly affecting product quality and production safety.
First, thiophene readily decomposes into hydrogen sulfide (H2S) during high-temperature refining. Upon contact with water, it forms an acidic medium that severely corrodes metal equipment such as pipes, reactors, and storage tanks, shortening equipment lifespan and posing a risk of leakage. Second, the sulfur atoms in thiophene strongly bind to the active centers of petrochemical catalysts (such as platinum, palladium, and nickel), permanently deactivating the catalyst, significantly reducing catalytic efficiency and increasing production costs. Finally, thiophene residues in petroleum benzene accelerate oil oxidation and deterioration, generating gums and precipitates, reducing the storage stability and industrial applicability of petroleum benzene. Furthermore, the combustion of thiophene produces sulfur dioxide (SO₂), a significant source of acid rain and air pollution; leaks pollute water and soil, are toxic to aquatic life, and leave long-term residues.
Weiyel has developed a series of thiophene standard substances compatible with gas chromatography and other detection technologies to accurately detect trace amounts of thiophene in petroleum benzene, providing scientific and accurate data support for the quality control of petroleum benzene products.

In the past, farmers relied on their own experience in fertilization operations, and could not guarantee the rationality of fertilization, so it often led to poor crop yield. Nowadays, through component analysis, it can guide farmers to scientifically apply fertilizers, which ensures the accuracy of fertilizer application, and make crop fertilization truly away from the embarrassment of "take a part for the whole".
